Psh. You guys are awesome. Thank you for your perseverance in giving us these shows no one wants to touch. I’m currently one of the editors (it’s complicate) for another group that is just starting again. With lack of work my friend and I basically started our own group doing Fan-sub like (without the translation part) DVD rips for our collection of shows that didn’t have congruent subtitle companies.

Where is all this going? I may not be as seasoned as you like, but I have the time and the gumption to do some work for you. I quite often find mistakes in my 1.3TB anime collection when it comes to weird ways to phrase things, always translating “hai” as “yes” and not varying things to circumstance. I have a Japanese 1 understanding of the language, which isn’t even enough for TLC, but has done me well for editing.

Hey guys, you are totally right. The copyright’s and licence over the U.S. is just legal on the U.S. territory.

A while ago I got really pissed when a fansuber (that was doing the Soul Eater) decided to drop the show because of that crap Funanimation stuff.

Anyways, we all from other countries do have our right to watch whatever we want, as long as the series is not licenced on every country.

For example, I’m from south america, and around here, any of those animes were licenced (and probably, never will be), so my only option to get some anime episodes is only over the overseas fansubers.

And it’s a pain in the ass when some fansubers (that are afraid about that Funanimation crap), they decide do drop the shows, even if those fansubers are not really from the U.S.

We, the people from the entire planet, we have the right to watch our animes without some f**** U.S. company telling us what we can do or what we can not do.

Anyways, I hope you guys keep the good work up!!!

Dude your right .. but still somehow i respect Funimation .. because i would do the same … as an example:
I have a restaurant and, i register “trademark” a recipe .. and the restaurant over street still our recipe and do it … however it affect my businesses but … if the restaurant is across the world .. it doesn’t.
the dude who made FUNimation had a great idea .. but from our point of view dubbing is FAIL… but other people may love … more the Dubbed than the subbed version.

Anyway, even if i respect them, we will still do Reborn. And we are open to discuss whit them as long as they agree that we can do free fansub for fans.

Skullman: Only luffy has that view among us. And she’s wrong. Copyright law is global. It is illegal, my only hope is FUNimation will allow us to bump their sales in their region by getting people of other regions interested in the show by means of free access to it.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I became interested in anime by watching it for free on TV one night out of boredom and curiosity. Since then I’ve spent a lot of money on dvds, and other products. So I know how much money there is to be made by allowing people to have a slice of the pie for free, while charging for the spoon.

Luffy: Dubbing is fine. I don’t see a problem with localising the spoken storyline. People who do, baffle me.

Actually, you are horribly wrong, Funimation is one of the few companies out there who ALWAYS gets GLOBAL LICENSES!!! So stop bashing America, at least HERE, they have to come to my HOUSE and get on MY computer and PROVE I have the episodes, and that I didn’t legally purchase them. Whereas in other countries, all they have to do is tell your ISP you downloaded them, and no proof is required, which is why I got my friend in England blacklisted, called his ISP and said he downloaded child porn, movies, software and distributed viruses, none of which did he actually do, they thanked me and said we will take care of this right away. Someone tried to do that to me with my ISP, they asked for proof, and called me right away saying someone was trying to get me blacklisted.

Funimation is among the group of total assholes, they even license the RAW JAPANESE VERSION! Yes, they actually buy the license from the Japanese company, and profit on the sales over there.

That being said, most companies don’t go to the trouble or expense to get global copyrights, such as Viz with Naruto and Bleach, they license per episode, and only in the USA and Canada.

May I ask …..what is the editor’s job?

Nollog: I did email you all once when you were recruiting for QC. All I got in return was an email saying “we got your email”. Thought this might be a better way to do things. Also figured if you really did need help, contacting someone that says “you can contact me for help” wasn’t that far of a stretch. Email has been sent off as suggested.

I do not know if this will help or not but here goes.
I have read a few things about the copyright issue but not enough to give legal advice about it but what I have come across is that the “berne convention” may give you some legal ground to make accurate translations but I have not seen proof that any fansubber has used that and won or lost.
my thinking goes that it is the japanese company’s audio and video/pictures that are trademarked by the japanese company-rights holders.
only your subs and sign’age/kareoke that belong to you.
so maybe if someone “outside” the group was posting raws on the “pirate bay” and your group was posting the .ass or .srt or .sub file and a link to the raw maybe that could get you out of the fire and back to the frying pan.
or someone may be able to find the berne convention info and see if it truly overrides the copyright law and talk to someone who can give legal advice as to see if this is a good defense and what the consequences could be

I absolutely agree with the post. The move what FUNi is done absolutely disgusting. I’m also live in Europe and when I heard the news about FUNi was licenced KHR I became really angry. I’m also a fansuber and KHR one of projects. But without English subs I have to drop KHR too.

when exactly did funimation license reborn? its my understanding that drights gave power of attorney to funimation but they never actually license it all funimation is allowed to do is demand the providers of illegal distribution of the show to stop (obviously only in north america i highly doubt they will buy a plane ticket to europe and sue ppl there) but they are not allowed to distribute the show under any circumstances so far no one has licensed reborn for north american release.

that is correct, as far as my understanding is, Funi don’t have the right to dub KHR. which i think is one of the reasons that Luffy is standing up to them because Funi have yet to give evidance of their ownership of the series.

If any new groups decide to pick up KHR they should just not bother making a website and just send their downloads to torrent sites like Ani Rena. That way Funi will have a harder time trying to stop them.
